Certified Lay Ministry : Upper - level Preaching Course

Location: Amory First Methodist Church, Amory, Mississippi

Schedule: Friday 5:30–8:30pm • Saturday 8am–1pm
Cost: $20
Format: In person only. There will be no Zoom option.
What This Course Is
May be used to meet the three-year upper-level course requirement for Certified Lay Ministry recertification.
Required if you want to be appointed to preach in a local church
Optional for those who simply want additional training
What This Course Is Not
This course is not required to become a Certified Lay Minister.
It does not replace any of the five basic Certified Lay Ministry courses.
Becoming a Certified Lay Minister
To become certified in the Mississippi–West Tennessee Conference, you must:
Complete all five basic Certified Lay Ministry courses
Complete the interview and background check process
Be recognized at Annual Conference
Appointment to Preach
If a Certified Lay Minister desires to be appointed to preach in a local church, they must complete an upper-level course such as Biblical Preaching.
This course may be taken before completing the five basic courses. If taken early, it will count toward eligibility for appointment to preach once certification is complete.
Maintaining Certification
Certified Lay Ministers must complete one upper-level course such as this one every three years, along with mentor requirements, to maintain certification.
