Legacy Letter Challenge

“Do you hear your Father’s voice?”  That question was posed by Legacy Letter founder, Blake Brewer, to the congregation of First Methodist Church Collierville (TN).

During the Father’s Day weekend of June 14 – 15, Blake offered a series of messages about the importance of writing a letter to your children so that they will know your heart - that you unconditionally love them.

Writing the letter may not be easy, but one letter can change a life. This is the mission of the Legacy Letter Challenge organization - to help One-Million people write at least one Legacy Letter to their children.

One letter did change a life, the life of Blake Brewer. Blake’s journey began with the tragic loss of his own father during a family vacation to Hawaii.  In the midst of devastating shock and grief, Blake’s mother gave Blake a letter that his father had written with the intent to give it to Blake on that trip.

As Blake read the letter, amidst immeasurable grief, he heard the voice of his father, his Dad. It was his Dad’s letter that inspired the creation of the Legacy Letter Challenge.

Blake is an inspirational speaker whose workshop session guides Dads and Moms through the steps to compose the Letter. The core emotions of love and truth are presented so that the written words capture the deepest expressions of a parent to his or her child.

In the sermon presented during each Father’s Day Sunday Service, Blake shared his own foundation in faith as a father to his four children. But it was the faith of Blake’s father as described in the letter, that was and is, a constant reference and example for Blake with his children.

As Christian men and women, we listen for the Voice of our Father, remembering it with our hearts and through the written words of Holy Scripture.

Leaving written words of love for our children is powerful. It may be the greatest letter that you’ll ever write so that your children can hear the voice of their Father.
