New Campus Ministry Director
We are excited to announce that Rev. Hugh Griffith has been appointed as the new Campus Ministry Director for the Mississippi-West Tennessee Conference, effective July 1.
In this part-time role, Hugh will work with other campus ministers throughout our conference to establish and strengthen collegiate ministries in Mississippi-West Tennessee.
Hugh is an ordained Elder in the Global Methodist Church and has a wealth of experience in campus ministry. He served as the Wesley Foundation Director at Mississippi State for 33 years. He and his wife Linda are also launching a new venture in campus ministry at Mississippi State called Awakening Collegiate Fellowship.
Awakening Collegiate Fellowship is a new pan-Wesleyan college ministry movement birthed in Georgia in 2024 when three Wesley Foundations responded faithfully and creatively to the adversity they experienced. Awakening at MSU launches July 1 and is the fourth campus chapter to join the movement. Additional Awakening groups are in the works at other campuses from North Carolina to Texas. ACF partners with the Global Methodist Church and with others in the Wesley/Methodist family to serve this generation of college students in a way that impacts future generations.
Awakening at Mississippi State aims to create a discipleship experience during the college years that goes with a student into life after college, impacting career, calling, church, friendships, marriage, family, communities, and on and on. ACF centers on Jesus through worship, prayer, scripture, and missions, all in the context of discipleship and community. More than a campus ministry, ACF is a missional strategy, based on the conviction that awakened students awaken their world.
ACF is a campus-based student organization with a close connection to churches in the Starkville vicinity and beyond. Without a building, Awakening will use meeting space on campus, church facilities, the Griffiths’ home, and students’ dorms and apartments. Regarding financial support, Awakening will lean on all kinds of folks who value this kind of Kingdom ministry to students – alumni, friends, and church partners, both local and throughout the state. Tax-deductible support for ACF at MSU as well as for collegiate ministry throughout the MS-WTN Conference may be given by individuals and churches at ms-wtngmc.org/giving.
