OneChild Philippines
The Mississippi-West Tennessee Annual Conference is helping launch new child-sponsorship ministries with Covenant Philippines GMC and Mega Manila GMC, two annual conferences of the Global Methodist Church in the Philippines, through OneChild.
We believe this can be a practical way for churches of any size, as well as individuals, to take part in mission and directly support ministry with children in the Philippines.
The ministries will be led locally by Covenant Philippines GMC and Mega Manila GMC. OneChild will provide training, systems, financial oversight, and support.
Phase 1 | Help Launch the Ministry
Before children can be sponsored, the local teams need the people, equipment, training, and resources necessary to get the ministries started.
Each center requires $5,000 in seed funding to launch.
The confirmed startup expenses include:
$2,500 | Five months of salary for a full-time Global Methodist gospel worker
This person will spend the startup period completing training, registering children, preparing the local ministry, and helping launch child sponsorships.
$1,250 | Office and communication needs
This includes a computer, smartphone, internet access, and other needs for training, communication, and ministry coordination.
$750 | Program and ministry supplies
This includes local travel, after-school program supplies, and gospel curriculum.
Churches and individuals will have the opportunity to contribute toward this seed funding. A contribution toward Phase 1 does not sponsor an individual child. It helps establish the ministry so sponsorship can begin.
The remaining $500 of the $5,000 startup budget still needs to be identified before we publish the complete financial breakdown.
Phase 2 | Sponsor a Child
Once the ministries are established and children are registered, individuals and churches will be able to sponsor children through OneChild for $44 per month.
Of each monthly sponsorship:
$33 supports the ministry serving children in the Philippines.
$11 supports administration and the systems necessary to operate the sponsorship program.
OneChild organizes its child-sponsorship ministry around four areas: faith, education, health, and community. Depending on local needs, support can include education and life skills, nutrition and health care, spiritual development, and activities that support children's social development.
What Sponsors Can Expect
Sponsorship connects an individual or church with a specific child and provides opportunities to learn about that child and the community where they live.
Through OneChild's Bridgely platform, sponsors can receive updates, photos, and videos from the child's Hope Center. Sponsors can also send messages, photos, and videos for local ministry leaders to share with their sponsored child.
Communication remains connected to and supervised by the local ministry serving the child.
Locally Led in the Philippines
Covenant Philippines GMC and Mega Manila GMC will lead the ministries in their own communities. Local Global Methodist leaders will work directly with the children and families they serve.
OneChild will provide training, technology, financial oversight, and the sponsorship structure needed to support the local ministry.
